Tips to Increase the Lifespan of your RO

Safe and clean water to drink and cook is one of the essential things in life. Drinking clean and pure water is only possible if you have a water purifying system at home. Purification is best done through RO (Reverse Osmosis). A good quality RO purifier can easily last more than ten years. Unbelievable. With proper maintenance and care, water purifiers can last longer and also provide clean and safe drinking water.

If your RO service is due, download the “OneDios” app and generate an RO service request in a few clicks.  You can also buy the extended warranty and AMCs for all RO brands like KentBlue StarHavells AO SMITH RO, LIVPURE RO, AQUA FRESH RO, EUREKA FORBES RO, etc.

The reverse osmosis (RO) system uses a multi-stage filtration process to remove different types of contaminants from water. It requires periodic maintenance to ensure the RO system continues to remove dissolved solids and that water quality remains high. Well, here are some ways by which you can improve the lifespan of your RO purifier.

  • Replace the filters regularly.

RO systems have a carbon pre-filter, a RO membrane, and a post-filter. Changing these filters on time is very important as impurities from water clog the filters after a while. Unclean filters affect the quality of water you use to drink and cook.

  • The carbon filter needs to be changed yearly as it filters chlorine and other dangerous contaminants and affects the water’s taste and odor.
  • The RO membrane is the heart of the RO system. The RO membrane must be changed every 3-4 months to prevent clogging of pores. It separates the contaminants from the water molecules. The filters protect the RO membrane.  A TDS meter can help you check if your RO membrane is functioning correctly.
  • The sediment filter needs to be changed at least once a year. Maintaining your sediment filter helps keep out sediment, dirt, and slit. It protects dirt from getting to the RO membranes.
  • The postfilter polishes the water as it leaves the storage tank to the tap. It can be changed annually. It receives good RO water from the storage tank.

To get the filters replaced on time, download the OneDios app now. OneDios also helps you to keep track of your previous RO service details, the next RO service due date, and parts replaced.

  • Keep a check on drips and leakages.

Drips and leakages by your RO purifier are not to be neglected. Leakages can lead to significant problems if left unattended. Please get the help of a professional to know the cause of the leakage and have it repaired. You can also download the Onedios app for RO service or an extended warranty or find out about AMC with just one click.

  • Drain the RO water tank

RO storage tank should be drained monthly. Draining allows the RO system to renew the water in the tank completely. When you only use a little water, the system only refills the top portion of the tank. Draining the tank periodically is essential to maintain water quality, freshness and taste.

  • Sanitize the RO water tank

Sanitizing is not required as often as draining, but it is recommended to do so yearly. Preferably, the tank’s sanitization and pipe cleaning should be done along with replacing RO membranes. It is required as all tanks grow slime after a while. If you think your RO water purifier isn’t working correctly or want to schedule a routine check-up or cleaning, download the OneDios app and book your RO service in 6 clicks.

  • Regular cleaning should be done.

Generally, you should clean your RO purifier system at least every two months to prevent the accumulation of minerals, dirt, and other contaminants. It’s best to follow the recommendations for cleaning in your RO users’ manual. Avoid using harsh cleaning products on your RO system and gently wipe it. Keep its outer also free from dirt and dust.

For regular cleaning and service of your RO purifier, download the OneDios app and book your RO service in a few seconds.

  • Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC)

AMCs make the task of maintaining RO water purifiers relatively easy and convenient. The quality of the water in your home plays an integral role in ensuring the safety of you and your loved ones. Download the OneDios app to find out about AMC of all leading RO brands like KentBlue StarHavells AO SMITH RO, LIVPURE RO, AQUA FRESH RO, EUREKA FORBES RO, etc.

We often forget or avoid doing essential things like cleaning the RO regularly or leaving the drips and leakages as it is. Following these simple tips to maintain your RO purifier system will keep it in great shape and extend its lifespan. Please remember that if you want to get your RO service done, raise an RO service request with Onedios. You won’t need to call various people or search for phone numbers. OneDios provides an end-to-end solution for all your RO service and repair-related issues. OneDios also helps you to keep track of your previous RO service details and parts replaced. RO Purifier common Problems and their Solution.

As the process of urbanization accelerates, demand for clean drinking water is on the rise. It is not safe to use unclean tap water for drinking purposes. Since civic bodies generally don’t undergo reverse osmosis (RO) in their supply, the burden shifts on individual consumers. Direct tap water might contain pathogens like bacteria and viruses. These pathogens can cause diseases like cholera, typhoid, and jaundice. Nowadays, there is a vital need to install RO purifier in homes because of polluted water.

How does the process of RO purifier works?

Reverse Osmosis or RO is a process of eliminating chemical contaminants from water to make it fit for use. When the RO process is combined with UV filtration in a purifier, it can also eliminate all biological pathogens. The marker to determine the purity of water is TDS or Total Dissolved Solids. TDS particles are ultra-minute salts or compounds that are dissolved in water. TDS particles are not eliminated through the process of simple filtration, hence RO is required. WHO mandated level of TDS for safe drinking water is 300mg/liter. If water from your tap supply is above the level of 900mg/L, then it is highly polluted. In that case, you need to urgently install an RO purifier at home.

There are a few things to keep in mind before you decide to buy an RO purifier or if you already have one. These are the most common RO problems and solutions in India:

1. Taste and smell of the RO purifier water

If you experience that water filtered from your RO purifier is foul in smell or bad in taste, it means you need to replace the filters. Biofilm is an organic layer of organic and inorganic compounds that accumulate on the filters after long usage. It can cause a rise in the level of contaminants in the purified water.

The solution to this problem is to get the filters replaced. Typically, you need to replace the filters every twelve months for the efficient functioning of the RO purifier.

2. Water flow or pressure

If your RO is releasing water slower than it normally does, it might be because of low water pressure. Mandated minimum pressure for RO purifies is 40-60 PSI ( pounds per square inch). If it is lower than that, you might not be able to operate it properly. It can be because of malfunctioning or leakage in the bladder. To resolve this issue, you would need to replace the clogged filters with the help of RO service providers.

3. Functioning of RO purifier’s faucet

Sometimes you may experience a constant water leakage from the RO purifier’s faucet. This can be because of an ill-fitted O-ring around the faucet. O-ring is a soft rubber ring that prevents leakage of the water and keeps it intact. In this case, you would need to call RO service to either get the O-ring replaced or fixed tightly.

4. RO water tank taking too long to fill up

This is another common problem for the users of RO water purifiers. In this case, the purifier’s tank either doesn’t get filled up at all or fills up too slowly. This is because of unusually low water pressure,i.e, below 40-60 PSI. This can also be caused by a damaged or clogged filter membrane, as discussed above. To ensure proper pressure in the membrane, it needs to be replaced once a year. Alternatively, you might need to get a pump installed if low pressure is because of any other reason.

5. Unusual vibrations and noises in RO Purifier.

RO pump is the most common cause of this problem. The pump ensures the required amount of pressure in the membrane. After constant use over the time, RO pump can become noisy. It is because one of its parts, bearings, vibrate at a very high speed to maintain a constant amount of pressure. These vibrations and friction can cause wear and tear in other parts of the RO purifier as well. To resolve this issue, you need to call the RO service provider to identify the exact problem and resolve it for you. Typically they might need to replace the RO pump if it has been a long time since the last servicing.

6.Wastewater volume is in excess

This common issue again causes clogged or damaged membranes in the filter. The rejected water from the RO purifier contains a high amount of TDS and contaminants. This forms an integral part of the functioning of a RO water purifier. The solution to this problem is regular maintenance and service of the RO purifier. In this case, also, you would need to get the filter membrane replaced for the efficient functioning of the RO water purifier.

What is key to know and understand is that your RO is the first line of protection when it comes to your daily water needs. RO AMC -Should you buy for your home?

RO AMC -should you buy for your home?

The quick and short answer is YES. Please read the complete blog to understand what type of RO AMC should you buy.  We shall also try to give the reasons for our recommendation.

RO for pure water at home

The last few years have seen a sudden rise in pollution levels. The quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat have also gone down because of pollution. Polluted air, water, and food can cause multiple health issues. Several products have been launched in the market to counter the ill effects of pollution.  RO water purifier is one such product. It has proven to be a very effective and affordable method for water purification. The success of the RO water purifier can be seen in the fast adoption of this technique.  Sales of new RO units each year is rising steadily.  This growth has also seen the launch of a  lot of brands in the market today.  Notable amongst them are Kent, ZeroB, Eureka Forbes, AO Smith, Livpure, AquaFresh, AquaGuard, etc.

Timely and  regular RO Service is important

Just because you have bought an RO, please don’t think your water worries are over. The purchase and installation of a RO unit is not enough. Pure and safe drinking water can only be available when your RO unit works properly. And that will happen when the RO unit filters and performs optimally. Over the passage of time, the filters and membrane of a water filter unit get clogged. Regular RO service and timely replacement of such damaged and clogged components can help ensure the continuous working of your RO.

RO AMC

An annual maintenance contract for RO is a good tool to provide for the above-mentioned requirements and reduce cases of break down.

There are numerous types and variations of AMC plans available in the market for RO units. An end consumer needs to select a suitable plan according to his requirement and budget. Regular repairs and maintenance of the water filtering system ensure healthy and unadulterated drinking water 24/7, at all times of the year.

You should evaluate different AMC plans before the free service or warranty period expiry for your RO. Also, it is important to understand what all is part of the AMC and what forms the list of exclusions.  The price of these AMCs also differs from models and brands.

Types of RO AMC available in the Indian market

  1. All-inclusive AMC with labor contract – As the name suggests this is a comprehensive plan. This plan practically covers everything that could go wrong with your RO. It also covers regular RO service. Such plans cover even expensive parts like RO motor.
  2. Spare components and labor inclusive RO service contract– Constant wear and tear warrants the replacement of some parts regularly. e.g. water filter. Such RO AMC plans cover those replacements along with regular service of the RO.
  3. Labor only AMC contract – Such type of AMC plan just ensures that the RO service happens as per the contract periodicity. A labor-only contract does not cover spares or parts.

OneDios recommended AMC type

A household cannot afford to compromise on the quality of water it uses for drinking and cooking. Also, any breach in the continuous availability of water can bring the household chores to a stop. If such an event happens, help should be instant. Ideally, intervention should be proactive. Your home should not be at the mercy of a RO service provider or their availability. The best is to engage with a dependable RO service provider well in advance for your RO AMC. It is preferable to buy an AMC contract that includes service and components which require periodic replacement. That is Option 2 from the above selection.

Option 1 – Comprehensive AMC plans are usually cost high.  Such plans also cover parts like motor etc which seldom go bad. We do not recommend Option 3- Labor only RO AMC contract. Such a contract just opens the door for the technician to push spare sales.
