A Complete Guide to Deal with Freezer Problems

Did your food get spoiled despite being kept inside the freezer safely? This is one of the most common complaints regarding refrigerators. A faulty freezer can be an unnecessary irritant. It can cause food wastage, reduce your refrigerator’s storage capacity and affect your home’s supply of ice. It can be particularly painful in summer if your freezer suddenly stops working properly.

Before you run to call an expert to get the freezer repaired, it is necessary to know about the cause of the problem.

Here are the most common Freezer problems and how you can solve them:

  1. Frost Buildup

The most likely explanation for heavy frost buildup inside the freezer is that the defrost heater is malfunctioning. The best solution to this problem is to get the defrost heater replaced. But if you find frost buildup only around the door, it might also be due to the door not fully closing. A pro tip to take care of your freezer for future use is to keep the temperature range between -18 degrees Celsius to 3 degrees Celsius. Temperature setting below this range would cause frost formation from the excess moisture.

  1. Unusual Noises

Strange and loud noises from the freezer can be annoying and an indication of possible malfunctioning inside the appliance. This problem arises mainly due to a faulty evaporator fan motor which is placed at the back of the freezer and circulates the air inside the freezer through evaporator coils. To solve this freezer problem, you will have to call for professional help. The evaporator fan motor might need a repair or replacement.

  1. Freezer not cold enough

The reason behind this can be dirty condenser coils. You need to check the dirt and dust buildup in condenser coils in your refrigerator. To clean the condenser coils you need to unplug your refrigerator, use a vacuum, or brush clean the coils. Check if the condenser fan is working fine or not. You may need to get it replaced if it’s not working.

  1. No light inside the Freezer

This means that the indicator may not be working due to broken wires. The light indicator helps us to know the status of the refrigerator. If there is a green light it indicates that the refrigerator is connected to the mains and if there is a red light it indicates a temperature warning.

  1. Water Leaking from Freezer

Water leaking from your freezer is because of the frozen defrost drain or malfunctioning evaporator coil. To troubleshoot this problem, you can try removing debris and dust from the defrost drain and keep it clean as part of regular maintenance. If this doesn’t solve your problem, you will need expert help.
